The York Festival of Science and Technology aims to bring science to life next month with a series of interactive science and technology-related events.

The 2005 festival, organised by Science City York, will focus on the creative side of science and technology and highlight the range of employment and training opportunities for people in the York area.

The festival will host over 30 events from March 11 to March 20 at venues including Askham Bryan College, The National Railway Museum, the University of York, York St John College and a number of York museums.

Manager of Science City York Anna Rooke said: "With high tech and digital businesses flourishing in the local economy, the goal is to encourage people of all ages to take the first steps into an area that provides exciting career opportunities and well-paid jobs.

"We hope that local people will come along and join in the fun, at the same time as finding out about the wide range of opportunities in this exciting field.

'' The public is invited to Delve into Dairying at Askham Bryan College on March 14 and 15 in one of the many interactive events being held during the festival, which coincides with the week.

In the last seven years over 2,600 new science and technology jobs have been created in York and 9,000-plus people are employed in the sector.

Anyone interested in visiting any of the festival events can pick up a free copy of the programme at Tourist Information Centres in the city or visit the website at www.sciencecityyork.org.uk
