About Community Science
Community Science is an integral part of Science City York’s activity, promoting awareness of science and technology issues amongst the general public. Science City York and its partners also aim to provide information about skills, training and career progression opportunities in creative, science and technology industries. Activities include Café Scientifique York discussion forum and the York Festival of Science and Technology.
York Festival of Science and Technology
The York Festival of Science and Technology is organised by Science City York and other organisations in York. The festival aims to bring science to life with a diverse series of fun and interactive science and technology related events. Once again the York Festival of Science and Technology will coincide with National Science and Engineering Week, 12 to 21 March 2010. It features a packed programme of special events and activities. The central theme for the 2010 National Science and Engineering Week is 'The Earth'. This year also celebrates the International Year of Biodiversity.
Café Scientifique York
Café Scientifique is an informal evening of lively discussion revolving around the contemporary scientific issues of the day. Each meeting begins with a short talk from an invited science-related speaker. This is followed by an hour of open discussion. Everyone is welcome to come and express their views, or to just enjoy a drink and listen. No scientific knowledge is assumed and everyone can participate. Café Scientifique takes place on the first Wednesday of every month at City Screen in York and has featured a wide variety of subjects from chocolate making to Egyptology.
Café Scientifique York is part of a growing international network of Café’s – to find out about other meetings and topics, please see the national website Café Scientifique for more details.
