Activities include Café Scientifique York discussion forum, York Festival of Science and Technology and Science Bite Size Tasters as well as extensive work within York schools.

York Festival of Science and Technology

The York Festival of Science and Technology is organised by Science City York and other organisations in York. The festival aims to bring science to life with a diverse series of fun and interactive science and technology related events. Next year’s festival will again coincide with National Science Week, 9 to 18 March 2007. It features a wide variety of events for York residents of all ages. The themes for the 2007 Festival will be ‘Bringing Colour to Everyday Science’ and ‘Sustainability’. In 2006 the York Festival of Science and Technology featured a series of interactive quizzes, tours and activities specifically designed to spark imagination and introduce everyone to the wonder of science.

Café Scientifique York

Café Scientifique is an informal evening of lively discussion revolving around the contemporary scientific issues of the day. Each meeting begins with a short talk from an invited science-related speaker. This is followed by an hour of open discussion. Everyone is welcome to come and express their views, or to just enjoy a drink and listen. No scientific knowledge is assumed and everyone can participate. Café Scientifique takes place on the first Wednesday of every month at City Screen in York and has featured a wide variety of subjects from chocolate making to Egyptology.

Café Scientifique York is part of a growing international network of Café’s – to find out about other meetings and topics, please see the national website Café Scientifique for more details.
