The Phoenix Centre

Phoenix Rises to Fire Up Creative Enterprise

A pioneering two year pilot initiative led by Science City York and funded by Yorkshire Forward launched in April 2009 to kick start the development and growth of a new generation of creative and digital businesses for the region.

The Science City York Phoenix Centre, independently housed within York St John University’s main campus in the centre of York provides affordable space for new creative and IT-based ventures, with access to specialist technical facilities and sector-specific business support, mentoring and training.

Science City York Phoenix Centre

  • Well serviced, affordable business premises in a prime city centre location
  • Intensive support for sustainable growth
  • Direct access to an extensive pool of creative expertise and specialist facilities
  • On hand sector specific business advice and mentoring
Extensive opportunities for collaboration and networking

The new facility has been developed by Science City York in direct response to feedback from members of its Creative York and IT & Digital York networks, fulfilling an identified requirement for a centrally located, incubation facility to support the region’s growing creative and digital sectors.

What’s On Offer?
The Phoenix Centre offers a prime city centre location for businesses, combining office space with state-of-the-art amenities and an efficient, customer-focussed support infrastructure.

In addition to offering standard office facilities, reception, domestic, portering/mail and security services, the Phoenix Centre provides direct access to sector-specific, specialist facilities such as editing suites and workshops for prototype development.

Business can occupy space in the Centre for a maximum of one year, the first six months of which are offered at minimal cost, with a further six months significantly subsidised.

Benefits
Over and above affordable, well-serviced business premises, the Centre also offers prime access to specialist support and optimal opportunities for networking and collaboration.

Its central location provides significant opportunities for emerging businesses to align themselves with a leading University and become part of a vibrant, high quality and diverse creative learning environment.

Successful applicants can also take advantage of a full range of support from Science City York and partner organisations, including training and funding advice.

Science City York’s Sector Specialist and Delivery Team will act as mentors for the young businesses over their crucial first year of operation, providing specialist support and actively championing the companies.
