Primary School Pupils Design Train of the Future

| Yorkshire Post

Young people in York have turned their imaginations to the future and their hands to train design.

Pupils from Lakeside Primary School had their first look at the end product of their designs at the National Railway Museum in York on 17 July.

The children worked with the museum's learning team to come up with the Porterbrook Portable Engine 'Velocity' as one idea of what train travel will look like in the future.

3D models were first created, from which ideas were taken to create the finished engine, 5ft high, 4ft wide, 11ft long when closed, 22ft long open.

The full-size interactive model will be on show at the NRM.
