David and Andrew Whelan have uncovered a hoard of Viking treasure which had been buried beneath the North Yorkshire countryside for more than a thousand years.
The treasure which was discovered by metal detectors in a ploughed field near Harrogate, is said to be the most significant find of its type in Britain for more than 150 years and could be worth up to £1m.
The find includes 617 rare coins, a gold arm ring and items of silver, all contained within a silver gilt vessel.
It is thought the hoard had been buried around AD927.
