Charity Code-a-thon: The 8 Hour Website-From-Scratch Challenge

| IT & Digital York
Following on from Science City York's highly successful Code-a-thon last year, the challenge returns, this time in Scarborough as part of Digital Scarborough 08.

As part of the digital festivities in 2008, Science City York invite you to don your laptops, creative juices, leadership skills and technological tenacity in order to develop a whole new website in only 8 hours - all for a local charity.

Everone is welcome to participate in the challenge and skills in the following areas would be greatly appreciated on the day:

  • HTML & CSS design
  • Logo/Graphic design
  • Creative/Copy writers
  • CMS/Backend development (eg: joomla)
  • Photography

We are pleased to be joined by Brian Teeman - one of the founders of Joomla! and OpensSourceMatters Inc. In 2005 he was honoured to receive the "UK Individual Contribution to Open / Source" for 2005. Brian spends much of his time advising Charities and faith groups on the best ways to develop and implement an online strategy.

Wi-Fi and refreshments will be provided to all participants.

Whether you're a participant or simply a spectator who wants to learn a bit more about the web development process, please come along and give your support.

The event will also be streamed on the web LIVE at www.digitalscarborough.org

Date: Saturday 15 March 2008

Time: 9am-6pm

Venue: Sigma @ The Cask, Scarborough
