York-based global central laboratory ACM-Pivotal has today announced a 20 per cent growth in personnel across the company.

This significant investment comes at a time of rapid growth for the clinical trials sector, as an extremely competitive pharmaceutical and biotech market drives demand.

ACM-Pivotal has made key appointments at its UK laboratory, located on York’s Clifton Moorgate, across business development, research, and logistics.

Helen Jenkinson joins the team as senior clinical laboratory scientist with more than seven years experience in biomedical sciences. The project management team has been strengthened with the appointment of Laura Williams as senior project manager, and experienced logistics manager Dean Thompson has been appointed to head up the company’s dedicated logistics facility, a rapidly expanding area for ACM-Pivotal.

Andrew Botham, PhD, joins as a senior scientist with responsibility for research and development of laboratory techniques. Andrew is an experienced biomedical scientist in clinical chemistry and will be providing scientific and technical support to the project management and business development teams. ACM-Pivotal has also made significant management promotions, with Chris Ellis and Shirley Macnamara promoted to head of operations and head of business development respectively, and will take an active role in shaping the future developments of the company.

Jerry Boxall, managing director of ACM-Pivotal Europe said, “The continued demand from drug development companies, plus growth in central and eastern Europe and the emerging markets of India and China have opened up new opportunities for the company. These key appointments will help to take ACM-Pivotal to the next level and we look forward to another successful year in 2008.”

With a staff of 360 laboratory science and clinical research experts, ACM-Pivotal’s global operations extend to more than 60 countries and offer a broad range of services for clinical trials. The organisation’s research team performs 12 million tests each year, with more than 1,500 individual tests spanning all medical disciplines, including pathology, microbiology, flow cytometry and pharmacogenomics.
