The A1 Open Summer Art Exhibition is aimed at encouraging and celebrating the diversity of artistic talent in the region. Over 600 artists submitted paintings in a variety of media for the exhibition. There is no particular theme, and entries are experimental, adventurous, traditional and contemporary.
Chairman of this year’s judging panel, Greville Worthington, commented that, “This exhibition has presented a unique opportunity for amateur and professional artists from across Yorkshire and North East England to showcase their work in the delightful surroundings of The Station and possibly to win one of the twelve cash prizes we have awarded.”
Works are available to purchase and a prestigious panel of judges from within the arts world locally, regionally and nationally made a final selection of work out of the 1200 entries submitted to the exhibition. Each picture submitted was judged anonymously
“This has been a fantastic opportunity for artists”, says Harriet Smithson, The Station’s Volunteer Curator, “in that there were no barriers to getting your work before the selection committee.”
