The History of York at Your Fingertips
The fascinating history of York is being told through a brand new interactive website – believed to be the first of its kind in the country.
www.historyofyork.org.uk cleverly captures the many layers that make up York’s rich heritage - from Romans to Victorians - and displays them in an easy to understand way. It includes an interactive timeline, themes, highlights of history and city trails to download.
It has been written by history experts in partnership with many of York’s most significant historical attractions and bodies. This is believed to be the first such collaboration in the country. Michael Woodward, director of business development at York Museums Trust, said: “York is such a deeply historical and complex city that it can be difficult to understand how all the different elements fit together.
“History of York is all about giving people a chance to grasp the basics of the story - a story that covers the whole of English history but from a local perspective. It's also about enabling people to dig a little deeper into the areas that interest them.”
The History of York website has been created with the help of many of the city’s leading attractions, charities and other bodies such as Yorkshire Forward and City of York Council.
