Business Link provides objective business information and expertise in areas such as business expansion and development, finance and starting a new business, as well as offering advice and resources to businesses within the York and North Yorkshire region.
City of York Council – Economic Development
City of York Council’s EDU is charged with maintaining and developing the economic well-being of the city for business and people alike. Embracing the model of partnership, the EDU works closely with many other organisations in the city in a number of strategic industries notably science and technology (through Science City York) and tourism (through First Stop York) but working closely too with others to ensure the long-term success and vitality of the city’s diverse economy in terms of investment, training and social inclusion for business and individuals alike.

Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform
BERR’s central purpose is to help ensure business success in an increasingly competitive world. It is the voice for business across Government.
It leads the Government’s drive to raise UK levels of productivity, create the conditions for business success and strengthen the economic performance of all the regions.
DIUS
Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills
This new Government Department brings together functions from two former departments. Science and innovation responsibilities from the Department of Trade and Industry. Skills, further and higher education from the Department for Education and Skills.

Future Prospects is the employment and learning advice service for York and its surrounding area, offering free information and support on learning and work.
Jobcentre Plus
Jobcentre Plus is a government agency supporting people of working age from welfare into work, and helping employers to fill their vacancies.
LSC North Yorkshire
Learning and Skills Council North Yorkshire
The LSC exists to make England better skilled and more competitive. The LSC North Yorkshire is responsible for funding and planning all post-16 education and training in the region, with the goal of improving the skills of North Yorkshire’s young people and adults to make sure we have a workforce that is of world-class standards.
Higher York
Higher York is the Lifelong Learning Network for York and North Yorkshire, and is a partnership between Askham Bryan College, The University of York, York College, York St John University and The City of York Council.
Their goal is to ensure that learners on vocational routes have more opportunities in Higher Education and to speak with employers to establish their needs from Higher Education, and ensuring the courses offered by our partnership reflect the economic demands of North Yorkshire.
National Science Learning Centre

The National Science Learning Centre opened in Autumn 2005. Housed in a purpose built, high-tech venue at the University of York, the centre provides professional development for science teachers and technicians across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It also performs a supportive role for the communications and ICT infrastructure for the Science Learning Centres network. The aim of the centre is to upgrade the quality of professional development on offer to teachers, technicians and support staff.
NYBEP
Business and Education Partnership for York and North Yorkshire
NYBEP is the lead body for education business links in the City of York and North Yorkshire. It encourages employers and education to work together for the good of the local economy.
NYBEP supports mutually beneficial links between education and business by managing high quality programmes for students in readiness for their working life.
The University of York

White Rose
White Rose University Consortium
The White Rose University Consortium is a strategic partnership between Yorkshire’s leading research Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York. By combining strengths, particularly in science and technology, White Rose aims to ensure its partner institutions and the Yorkshire region can prosper through unity and benefit from a range of opportunities and initiatives including collaborative research and industrial partnerships.

The White Rose Centre for Enterprise is based on the emerging world class reputation for successful enterprise enjoyed by the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York. It aims to increase the entrepreneurial skills and competency of graduates, postgraduates and research staff, and to give encouragement and support to technology transfer, particularly via the formation of new companies.
YNYCC
York & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce
York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce is the largest non-profit making private business organisation in North Yorkshire and exists to serve the diverse needs of businesses throughout the City of York and the County of North Yorkshire. YNYCC’s role as an organisation that speaks to Government on a local, regional and national level is well established, seeking to provide a focal point for business issues and to give a voice to these issues.

York Tourism Bureau
York Tourism Bureau (Est. 1987) is a private non-profit making organisation and is the marketing arm of the First Stop York Tourism Partnership. Its principle objective is to increase income in the city generated by tourism by marketing the city of York as a leading visitor destination. York Tourism Bureau currently has 500 members in and around York, and it consults and represents these members at local, regional and national level regarding issues which affect them and the industry.
